About TipCalc
TipCalc was built around a small frustration: most tip calculators hide two decisions that change the answer. They pick — silently — whether your tip is figured on the bill before tax or after it, and they round the split in whatever way their code happened to fall out, so the per-person amounts often do not add back up to the total. TipCalc makes both decisions visible. You choose the tip base with a switch, and the split is penny-exact by a rounding method the site explains in plain words.
The site covers the forward calculation (bill and rate to tip and total), the reverse one (bill and amount paid to the rate you actually left), even and by-shares bill splitting, charts for common bill amounts, and two orientation guides — tipping ranges by situation, and tipping customs by country. The guides summarise widely reported customs; they are orientation, not rules, and local practice always wins.
All calculations run locally in your browser; see the privacy page for exactly what that means. TipCalc is part of a small family of free tools. Pro features are planned at $9/month and are not yet on sale — everything on the site today is free.
